Winemaker - Francesco Visentin

It was Lizio Plozner, in the 1960's, who first believed in the region and pioneered viticulture in the area. Today the Plozner winery is in it third generation with the team headed up by Valeria Maffei assisted closely by her daughter Sabina, after the recent tragic death of son Marco. The estate is based on a 100 hectare rectangle (60 hectares under vine) situated in the foothills of Grave del Friuli, not far from the Alps and close to the region's morainic hills. The region favours a dry, cool climate and healthy grapes. Stones and gravel deposited by the Meduna and Tagliamento Rivers make up the soils where Plozner vines are planted. Alluvial in origin yet not very fertile, the soils guarantee excellent drainage, low vegetative vigor and naturally small crop yields. Francesco Visentin continues as the winemaker, and he is responsible for the consistency and reliability of the great value wines of Plozner for the past twenty years. The wines are cellared and aged in the subterranean vaults of the on-site Plozner winery. The Plozner wines reflect their own region of origin. Fresh, flavourful and with characteristic crispness and immediate appeal, they are aromatically complex with decided personality.
